It feels strange saying it right? 2020. Didn’t they say we’d having flying cars by now?
As the new year gets rolling, so do our plans for success and what we’d like to achieve in the next 12 months. Thoughts drift in and out of our heads, such as planning for weight loss, making money, getting closer with the family, learning the clarinet and so on.
If one thing in particular really sticks out in your mind as a worthy endeavour, indulge me on this simple, but often overlooked advice.
Write it down.
You see we don’t think in words, we think in symbols, pictures and sounds. In this way, our thoughts are shapeless, abstract and not tangibly based in reality. If our goals are without form and not based in reality, we have no frame of reference to realise it by.
You may have a goal in mind for a physically fitter you – a slimmer, sleeker model. You might see it vividly in your minds eye. But if you have no context for what that really means for you, how will you know how to get there?
Do you need to lose 5lbs of fat?
Or gain 5lbs of muscle?
The more specific goal you have, the better you can concentrate your energy and efforts into one direction. You can be more efficient, streamlines and you will see your goal is achieved easier.
I’ll say it again, whatever goal you have in mind for 2020.
Write it down and be specific!
How do you get from point A to point B if you can’t describe what point B looks like?
